OUR HISTORY

Muhammad Kamalud-Deen College was founded by the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Ilorin Branch. Initially the premises/site of the College was occupied by Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Nursery and Primary School (MKNPS) which was established in 1980 by the Society. The Primary School was managed by distinguished members of the Society that includes the following: Alhaji Saka Saadu, Hon.Justice Mutalib A.Hambali, Alhaji Ahmad Olayiwola Kamal, Alhaji S.A.T Adisa-Onikoko, Alhaji Soliu B.Basambo, Alhaji B.L Yusuf,Fadilatu Shaykh Sofiyullahi Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiyy, Alhaji Waliyullah Kamaldeen and others. The Nursery and Primary School for many years produced standard and qualitative primary education for Nigerian children, who today occupy various fields and professions.

In view of increased demand for Secondary education in the community, Dr Salami Mudasiru, then Principal of Ansarul Islam Secondary school, Ilorin, made a strong and timely presentation/proposal to the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Ilorin Branch to establish a new college. The proposal was accepted by the Society under the chairmanship of Alhaji Saidu Olayinka, a seasoned administrator.

Two existing Nursery and Primary schools namely Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Nursery and Primary School (MKNPS) and Ansarul-Islam Secondary School Staff Nursery and Primary School were to be merged into one school to be sited at the AISS premises, Ogidi, Ilorin. A new College would then be established at MKNPS premises at Adewole, Ilorin. The following were nominated as members of the Technical Implementation Committee (TIC) of the proposed college by the Society. The task of the Committee was to look into the logistic of the merger of the two primary schools and the establishment of a college to commence by September 2006/2007 academic session. The TIC were made up of: Alhaji Ibrahim Alfa Ibrahim (Chairman), Dr.Salami Mudasiru (Member), Alhaji Alfa Nassam, Secretary of AISN Ilorin Branch; Alhaji Oba S.Gidado Ajia(Member), Alhaji Kawu Kamal(Member), Alhaji Ibrahim Maijindadi (Administrative Secretary) AISN, Ilorin Branch.

Recommendation

The TIC did a good job and their recommendations were approved by the Society. The Committee recommended that the proposed college should be named after the Founder of the Society, His Eminence, Dr. Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiyy, as Muhammad Kamalud-Deen College (MKC). similarly, the merged Primary Schools should also be called Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Nursery and Primary School (MKNPS). The TIC also made recommendations on the aims and objectives of the College, the mission/vision, the curriculum content, staff appointment, infrastructure, finance, furniture, offices equipment, teaching aids and others. Fortunately some facilities were already in place such as a solid storey building and a half-completed storey building to house classrooms, staff and administative offices as well as toilet facilities. There was also adequate field for sports and games. Borehole was under construction by Engr. Kola Ibrahim at that time. The TIC recommendations were accepted. As finance was a major constraint, the society appealed for donations and loans from members. Consequently the following were the immediate donors for the take-off of the Muhammad Kamalud-Deen College: Alhaji Kelani Buhari, Alhaji Ahmad Olayiwola Kamal, Alhaji Mubaraq Kamalud-Deen, Alhaji Salman Sadiq Ubandawaki (Loan),and the Adabiyah Kamiliyah Group. Although the total donation received was just #120,000 it was rather timely. These donors have therefore left indelible foot prints in the annals of the school.

The great role played by the then principal Alhaja A. Yusuf in nurturing the school to pass through the various recognition inspections must be acknowledged. The college in its 15th year has gone through turbulent currents. One has to acknowledge the contributions of the society, under the leadership of Alhaji Saidu Olayinka, for its support financially during the critical period of equipping the college for the Kwara State Ministry of Education Advisory inspection and WAEC/NECO recognition inspections. From an initial Students enrolment of barely 14 Students (8 Boys and 6 Girls) in 2006/2007 session, the college now has a total population of over 500 students in 2020/2021 session. When Alhaji Mahmud Alfanla took up the Chairmanship of Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, Ilorin Branch, as a seasoned educationist, he continued with the good work of his predecessor in the growth and development of the School's infrastructure and academic activities, such that in the 2017 WAEC SSCE, the College scored 100% in almost all the subjects registered.

Conclusion

It is to the glory of Allah that the College has made great strides in the area of discipline, academic performance and extra-curricular activities. The College has excelled in the WAEC and NECO senior school Certificate Examinations and many of our products are in various tertiary institutions doing various courses like medicine, achitecture, pharmacy, engineering, law, accounting, surveying and so on. The College is primus inter peres in sports and extra-curricular activities. The PTA under the able leadership of Alhaji Imam Safhi Abdulmalik is performing effectively. The current Principal, Alh. A. O. Abdulkareem is doing very well in order to leave indelible foot-prints in the sands of time.
